Art and creativity
To fully use your creativity, in writing especially, you just need to get it out. Whether it's abstract and disjointed or to the point and concise. It is all part of the game.
Nobody wants to make mistakes. Yet, everybody makes them. There is no way around it. If you live and breath you will make a mistake. Take a moment to let that sink in. To make mistakes is to be human. Get over it. Unless you support the social security system, kill someone, or are a terrorist...chances are that the little mistakes you make now will not echo into eternity. They will be forgotten. Now why can't I forget mine? Why won't they disappear? To dwell on one's past is human, while accepting it is divine.
Who is to say what art is? Art is in the eye of the beholder. We all know that line. Art is love. The love that one needs to put in the effort, and go through the hard times to achieve it. It takes a certain kind of love to explore the depths of creative potential. It is the same love that a mother gives to her daughter or a wife to a husband. That all nurturing, all seeing, pick you up when you fall, care for you in sickness and in health kind of love.
I am not sure whether or not creativity can be learned. Craft can be. The creative juices, however, are given from an unknown source. Though inspiration is all around us. There's no denying that. Some have more than others. It's just like athletic ability. But who is to say that someone that appears to have no creativity at all doesn't have a deep, rich reservoir hidden from their view. And who is to say that somebody that wants it badly enough can't make up for it with hard work. Someone who will push, scratch and claw everyday to make it work, when the others with 'more' potential talent quit. Potential is nothing without passion.
The ideas are everywhere, it's the courage to embrace them that I search for.
